Chrome 32-bit should not have maxed out your CPU, especially on the kind of system you're mentioning. After clicking the download link, ensure the page says "64-bit" under "Download Chrome for Windows." Whenever you download Chrome in the future, be sure it says 64-bit here.
The official Google Chrome Help Forum is the best place to find that answer.
