Set Cubase to use ASIO4All. But 1+2 is perhaps the main reasons for your troubles. I'm hoping & figuring that'll be improved when the release version of 4.5 finally comes out.

The quickest way to obtain more information on a specific error message is to visit Microsoft's Knowledgebase (http://support.microsoft.com) and enter the error number that you saw on your blue screen, in Device Manager doesn't even have to option to turn off USB devices to save power (it's not a laptop). I can use the program, and even open sessions and mix as long as I do everything real slowly.
