I was thinking that the problems could be linked to my video card because Skyrim and Adobe Flash player are both relatively GPU intensive (compared to normal computer use). Upon closing the browser I am free to open up another flash video without fault (no BSOD) most of the time. The real issue here seems to be: you most likely have an ATI Radeon HDx video card running your monitor. The card IS showing it's age though, and you'll be better off with a GTX 560 ti or similar.
