Citrix Updates MetaFrame Secure Access Manager

The update of MetaFrame Secure Access Manager to version 2.2 now lets mobile and remote workers securely synchronize their local copy of Outlook with the one kept within the perimeter from any location, whether via the Web or over the network. The feature allows users to keep multiple copies of Outlook -- the one on their laptop, for instance, and that on their in-the-office desktop PC -- always up-to-date.

Citrix Product Lifecycle

Citrix announced some product lifecycle changes a couple weeks ago. If you are running Metaframe 1.8 today you better take a look at this chart and plan your migration to Metaframe XP. End of Maintenance (EOM) is probably the most important thing to be concerned with and that ends on 6/30/2005 for all non-XP versions.

Here are the different designations:

Notice of Status Change (NSC) is the announcement to initiate a product into the end of life process. This typically will signify an end of development for new features and enhancements of a product. The product announcement will provide details on the specifics of the status change. An end of sales (EOS) date and end of maintenance (EOM) date may also be provided at this time.

End of Sales (EOS) is the date that the product will no longer be available for purchase. There will be a minimum 90 days notice for an EOS date. The end of sales date reflects the beginning of the extended phase.

End of Maintenance (EOM) is the date that support from a code maintenance level will no longer be occurring. This type of support is typically in the forms of service packs & hot fixes. There will be a minimum of 12 months notice for an EOM date.

End of Life (EOL) signals the end of life for the product after which time there will be no further support of any level available. This date will be a minimum of six months from the EOM date.
